astrid-floor-lamp
Astrid Floor Lamp

The Astrid Floor Lamp from Four Hands is a slim arc lamp built to reach over the arm of a sofa or reading chair. A walnut veneer base anchors brass-finished steel tubing, and the shade is brown top-grain leather fixed with brass pins. A dimmable LED bulb is included, and the dimmer sits on the black cloth cord.

Walnut, brass and leather is a warm trio, and here it is handled in a spare, contemporary way. The leather shade has the tailored look of a saddle or a good briefcase, and the pin detailing gives the edge a little hardware-store polish. As with any top-grain hide, grain and tone vary from lamp to lamp. It sits well beside cognac leather, bouclé, dark-stained wood and plaster-toned walls.

Set it behind a sofa or beside a lounge chair so the shade hangs over the seat and throws light onto a book or lap. The dimmer lets the same lamp read as a task light in the evening and a low glow after dinner. It also works in a bedroom corner, a study or an entry where a table lamp would crowd the surface.
