The Jayla Dining Armchair from Four Hands is a midcentury-inspired seat made for the head of the table. A sling-style back and seat cushion, built from polyurethane foam wrapped in polyester batting, rest inside a solid wood frame with sculpted arms that taper into the legs. The upholstery depends on the finish and runs from a performance-woven linen blend to a velvety polyester to top-grain leather, each paired with a warm walnut or oak stain.
The silhouette is slim and open, with a gently curved back, narrow wooden arms and legs that narrow toward the floor. It follows the Danish-leaning lines of the 1950s and 60s but keeps the proportions a little more relaxed, so it reads as current beside a travertine or white oak table as easily as a vintage walnut one. The lighter finishes sit quietly in a room, while the plum and the leather give a dining set a stronger point of view.
Use it as a host chair at one or both ends of the table, or pull a pair up to a desk or a corner reading nook. The arms give you somewhere to rest through a long dinner, and the performance-fabric options are made to handle spills and daily use. Steam the upholstery now and then to keep it crisp, and the wood will settle in with the rest of the room.
