The Rothler is a Four Hands dining armchair built around its woven back. A solid ash frame holds a paper-cord back panel worked in alternating horizontal and vertical sections, and the frame wraps partway around the top rail so the cord reads as part of the structure rather than an insert. The seat is a thick cushion of polyurethane foam and polyester batting, covered in a performance textile in two colorways or in top-grain leather in a third.
The shape is mid-century in its bones, with slim tapered arms, a low back, and a seat that sits generously forward. The tone-on-tone weave adds texture without adding pattern, and the frame comes in a natural tan ash or a black brushed ash, so the chair can sit quietly beside a pale oak table or stand out against a dark one. It pairs well with plaster walls, stone or terrazzo, and rooms that already have plenty going on.
Pull a pair up to the head and foot of a dining table and use armless chairs along the sides, or set all of them around a kitchen table where the performance fabric can handle spills and daily use. The leather version will soften and darken with age. As with any solid wood and hand-woven cord, grain and weave vary slightly from chair to chair.
