Barware

Barware is what turns a drink you made into a drink you served.

This is our collection of glassware, decanters, and cocktail tools for bars that take themselves seriously enough to get the details right. We stock the pieces that make pouring a nightcap feel like an occasion: rocks glasses with real weight, coupes that catch the light, and shakers and strainers that earn their spot on the cart. Some of it is new, and some of it is vintage barware we tracked down because we couldn’t leave it behind.

Every piece is chosen by our team here in Over-the-Rhine, the same eye that runs the floor of our 17,000-square-foot store and pours the coffee at Rosemary's upstairs.

Whether you’re building a home bar from scratch, restocking before a dinner party, or hunting for something worth wrapping, this is where the entertaining starts.

Building a Home Bar Cart

A bar cart should be able to make the drink you want without a trip back to the kitchen. Getting there takes fewer pieces than you’d think.

The Essentials

A good barware set comes down to owning the right few pieces. Start with barware glasses in two shapes: a rocks glass for anything on ice and a coupe or Nick and Nora for anything shaken or stirred. Add a shaker, a bar spoon, a jigger, and a strainer, and you can make most of the classics without reaching for anything else.

A decanter does double duty, keeping your whiskey or your favorite red within arm's reach and looking good while it waits. When we build a set that stays out on display, we lean toward crystal barware for the showpieces and heavier, hardworking glass for the pieces that see nightly use.

Build it once, and the cart more or less runs itself.

Barware as a Gift

When someone asks us for a gift that will see real use, we walk them straight to the bar cart. Here’s how we’d shop it.

Housewarming and Hostess Picks

Barware gifts land because they get used often. A pair of good rocks glasses or a decanter is the kind of present someone remembers every time they pour, which makes it a reliable pick for the friend who just closed on a house or the host who fed you all weekend.

For a housewarming, we like something that sets a new place up to entertain from day one, so pair a set of glasses with a bottle worth showing off. For a hostess, keep it small and personal, since a single striking piece often reads more thoughtful than a boxed set.

Browse our housewarming gifts for more in this spirit or the full gift collection when you’re shopping for someone harder to pin down. For something more personal, ask our team about engraving and personalized barware.

FAQ

Barware FAQs

We don't do FAQ pages with scripted corporate answers. If you have a question that isn't here, just ask. That's what we're here for.

What is included in barware?

Barware covers the tools and vessels you use to mix, pour, and serve drinks. Think glassware like rocks glasses and coupes, decanters, and cocktail tools such as shakers, jiggers, strainers, and bar spoons. High St. also folds in the extras that make a bar feel finished, from ice buckets to bottle openers to the occasional vintage find.

What is the best barware for a home bar?

Start with a barware set built around versatility. Two glass shapes, a shaker, a jigger, a bar spoon, and a strainer will carry you through nearly every classic cocktail. Add a decanter and a few specialty glasses as your taste sharpens.

Does barware make a good gift?

It does, and it’s one of our most-recommended picks. Barware gifts get pulled out and used, which is more than you can say for most housewarming presents, and a single well-made piece suits nearly anyone who likes to entertain.

What glassware do you need for cocktails?

Two shapes cover the basics. A rocks glass takes spirits on ice and old-fashioneds, and a coupe or Nick and Nora covers anything served up. From there, highball glasses handle tall drinks, and a set of wine glasses rounds out the barware glasses most home bars reach for.
