A drum-shaped swivel chair from Four Hands, built to be looked at from every side. The body is a rounded barrel with a low arm and a shallow back, upholstered in a woven fabric over a foam seat on a solid parawood frame. A row of bullion fringe finishes the bottom edge and moves a little whenever the chair turns. The base rotates a full circle on a flat wood platform with plastic glides underneath.
The Aurora suite takes a soft, feminine silhouette and gives it a sense of theater. The fringe brings in a 1970s lounge reference, while the rounded form and distressed natural wood base keep it from tipping into costume. Two fabrics are available, a deep plum and a muted olive, each with fringe cut to match. It sits well beside brass, lacquer, and plenty of pattern, and holds its own as a single bold piece in a quieter room.
Place it in a living room corner where you can turn from the conversation to the window, or at the end of a bedroom as the chair clothes end up on. The seat is deep enough for tucking a leg up with a book. Because it swivels, it also works as a flexible extra seat near a sofa, ready to face whichever way the room is leaning.
