The Baden Dining Chair from Four Hands is an armless side chair built around a lean wooden frame and a seat that appears to hover above it. The frame is solid wood, nettlewood in the darker finishes and ash in the fabric version, joined with mortise and tenon and set on slim, splayed legs. The seat is a wooden platform with a foam pad and fiber batting under a knife-edge cover in top-grain leather or a woven linen-blend fabric. Leather wrapping at the joints and back adds a hand-stitched texture against the smooth wood.
The silhouette comes straight from midcentury Scandinavian and American side chairs, with a low back that keeps sightlines open across a room. Leather in tobacco or black reads warm and worn-in, while the wheat-toned fabric is lighter and quieter. The wood tones range from a natural nettlewood to a brushed ebony, so the chair can sit comfortably next to walnut, travertine, or a painted plaster wall.
Set a run of them around a dining table, or pull a single one up to a desk, a vanity, or the end of a long console. The low back tucks neatly under a tabletop, which suits tight dining rooms and eat-in kitchens. Leather will soften and pick up a patina with daily use, and the fabric option wipes down with a light brush or vacuum.
