A leather-topped bench from Four Hands, built from a slim iron frame that carries one tailored cushion. The frame is finished in a light gunmetal and kept narrow, so the seat reads as a single clean horizontal line. The top is top-grain leather over a foam and polyester fiber fill on webbing, and the frame is joined with pocket screws and nails for a firm, steady seat.
The shaping is streamlined and a little architectural, closer to a gallery bench than a piece of upholstered furniture. The leather is smooth to the touch and comes in a warm taupe or a deep black, and as with any top-grain hide it will soften and pick up character with use. The dark metal base pairs easily with wood, plaster, stone, and the heavier textures of a maximalist room.
It is armless and open underneath, which makes it easy to place almost anywhere. Set it at the foot of a bed, along an entry wall for pulling on boots, under a window, or behind a sofa as a low landing spot for books and throws. Vacuum or brush it lightly to keep the leather clean.
