The Brahms Swivel Chair from Four Hands is a lounge chair built around a polished metal frame that cradles oversized, pillowy cushions. The top-grain leather has a soft nubuck finish and is inflated enough to fill out the frame, so the chair reads as bold and architectural from across the room and sink-in comfortable once you are in it. A wooden platform supports the seat, the body is filled with polyurethane foam and polyester fiber batting, and the base turns a full circle.
The design draws on 1970s Italian upholstery, when designers set soft, puffed leather inside hard-edged metal structures. Tobacco brown nubuck against bright metal gives the chair a warm, slightly smoky look that suits travertine, walnut, and boldly patterned wool rugs. It has real presence without a lot of ornament, so it holds its own next to a sculptural lamp or a stack of art books.
Put it in a living room corner where it can swing between the window and the conversation. It also works well beside a record player, at the foot of a bed, or in a study where one good chair is needed for reading. The leather will soften and take on character with use.
