A Four Hands side chair with a sculpted, curving body that reads more like a shaped shell than a boxy frame. The seat is a wooden platform padded with polyurethane foam, and a single fixed back cushion flows into the curve of the frame. It is armless, so it slides easily under a table, and it comes in two coverings: saddle-brown faux leather, or a cream blend of polyester, viscose and flax.
The Briette sits in the Allston family of modern furniture from Four Hands, where soft, rounded silhouettes do most of the talking. The brown faux leather leans warm and a little retro, while the cream weave has a loose linen texture that suits plaster walls and pale wood. Metal legs lift the body off the floor and keep the profile light, so the chair pairs as easily with a heavy slab table as with a slim pedestal.
Pull up a set around the dining table, or use a single chair at a desk, a vanity or the corner of an entry. The cleaning code is water-based, which makes it easy to keep up through weeknight dinners and long dinner parties. Mix the two coverings at one table if you like a slightly uneven set.
