The Brino Sconce from Four Hands is an oval of frosted, smoke-toned glass that seems to float off the wall, held in place by slim iron arms finished in bronze. The glass diffuses the light into a soft, even wash rather than a point of glare. Iron gives the fixture its weight and a darkened, slightly worn finish that reads as metal rather than paint.
The silhouette is simple and a little retro, with the rounded shade set against straight, slender arms. The bronze and smoke tones sit comfortably beside aged brass, walnut, plaster walls and the deeper colors of a maximalist room. Hung as a pair, the sconces frame a mirror or a bed with a quiet symmetry. Hung singly, they work as a small accent light in a tight spot.
Brino is hardwired and uses LED bulbs, so it needs to be installed by an electrician. It is damp rated and bathroom safe, which opens up the vanity, the powder room and the covered entry as places to hang it. It also suits a hallway, a bedside wall or the space beside a living room mantel, wherever a low, warm light is better than an overhead one.
