A modular dining banquette from Four Hands, built on a frame of solid oak and oak veneer with mortise-and-tenon and corner-block joinery. The seat and back are thickly cushioned over a webbed seat, wrapped in a white Crypton performance fabric made to resist stains, moisture and odor. Each piece is sold on its own, so you choose the straight runs, left- or right-facing ends, corner piece or chair-and-a-half that fit your room.
The legs are tall, tapered and square, ending in bun feet that give the frame a traditional footing under a clean-lined, upholstered body. Warm oak against bright white reads as classic and a little relaxed, closer to a country kitchen booth than a restaurant fixture. It sits comfortably beside a round pedestal table, a farmhouse table in aged wood, or a painted plaster wall with a row of framed prints above it.
Use it to turn an unused corner of the dining room or kitchen into a built-in-looking nook for breakfast, homework and long dinners. Pieces connect to form an L or a U, so a small nook can grow into a larger one as the room or the household changes. The performance fabric is the reason to put white upholstery where people eat, since spills wipe up with a water-based cleaner.
