A captain-style dining chair from Four Hands, built around high arms and an exposed solid parawood frame. The seat and back are a single tight cushion upholstered in olive polyester, filled with foam and polyester batting and supported by webbing underneath. The frame is joined with mortise and tenon joints and corner blocks, then finished in a warm buff tone that lets the wood grain show, so grain and shade vary slightly from chair to chair.
The shape borrows from Swedish Gustavian seating, with its restrained neoclassical lines and tapered legs, and trims it down to a cleaner, more open profile. Olive against pale buff wood is a quiet, earthy pairing that sits easily beside oak tables, limewash walls, linen drapery, and brass. It reads as traditional from across the room and a little more modern as you get close.
Use it at the head of a dining table, where the arms give a host or a long-lingering guest somewhere to settle. It also works as a desk chair, a seat at the end of a bed, or a single sculptural chair in a corner or entry. Because the cushion is fixed and the frame is open, it keeps a lighter visual weight than most upholstered armchairs.
