A round side table from Four Hands built on one simple idea: a warm wood top resting on a textured faux shagreen base. The top is edge-banded resawn veneer over solid wood, and the base is low and sculptural, lifting the table just off the floor. Two finishes are offered, natural oak over a light cream base or reclaimed peroba over a darker shagreen base, and the grain of each top will vary from table to table.
The Crosby was designed with Thomas Bina, the Los Angeles furniture designer whose work with Four Hands dates to the early 2000s and spans reclaimed-wood case goods and Brazilian-inspired upholstery. You can see that lineage in the pairing here, where natural timber meets a surface that looks like ray skin. The drum silhouette keeps things quiet, so the materials do the talking next to bouclé, linen, brass, or lacquer.
Set it beside a sofa or lounge chair to hold a lamp and a drink, or use it as a compact bedside table. The footprint is small enough for a tight corner or the gap between two chairs, and it stays sturdy under books, a stack of magazines, or a ceramic vessel.
