The Decker is a high-backed dining chair from Four Hands, built on a slim iron frame with bent-metal detail and legs that taper toward the floor. The seat and back are upholstered over foam and polyester batting on a webbed base, which sits softer than the lean frame suggests. It is offered in a choice of fabrics, including a snow-white Crypton performance weave engineered to resist stains, moisture and odor.
The silhouette takes its cues from European dining rooms, where a tall back and a narrow frame do the work of a more formal chair without the bulk. The dark, gunmetal-toned iron keeps the lines graphic, and the curves in the metal soften an otherwise angular structure. It sits comfortably with warm wood tables in oak or walnut, and just as easily against stone, glass or a painted wall.
Armless and sized as a side chair, the Decker works in sets of four or six around a dining table, or singly at a desk or in an entry. The performance fabric options are made for rooms that get used, from weeknight dinners to long Sunday card games. Light-colored upholstery stays a practical choice here because spills wipe up with a water-based cleaner.
