The Doray Swivel Chair from Four Hands is a compact, curved armchair that turns freely on a concealed base. The body is upholstered in a brushed-and-pulled fabric blended from acrylic, polyester and wool, which gives the surface a soft, slightly raised texture. Figured burl oak veneer frames the upholstery, and the grain varies from chair to chair, so each one has its own pattern. Inside, the seat rides on webbing with a single fixed, boxed cushion.
The silhouette is rounded and low-key, closer to a 1970s conversation chair than a traditional club chair. Pale, textured upholstery against dark, swirling burl reads as two materials in conversation, and neither one competes with the other. It pairs well with plaster-toned walls, a travertine side table, or a rug with some pile.
Set it in a living room corner where you can turn from the window to the room without getting up. It also suits a bedroom reading spot or a pair angled toward each other across a coffee table. The base rotates in a full circle and holds up to 250 pounds.
