The Fenn Chair from Four Hands is a low, squared-off lounge chair built around a slim hammered iron frame. A thick square seat and a cylindrical bolster back sit inside that frame, with fixed arms running the length of the seat. The upholstery changes by variant, from off-white Mongolian fur and amber shearling to woven natural-fiber and polyester textiles. Underneath, S-springs and a foam and fiber-batting fill give the seat some give, and leg levelers keep it steady on uneven floors. In the fur and shearling versions, pile length, color and pattern vary from one chair to the next.
Fenn plays rugged metal against soft surface, a pairing that runs from mid-century lounge chairs through current showroom favorites. The open tubular frame keeps the silhouette light even when the upholstery is shaggy, so the chair reads as sculptural without crowding a room. It sits well beside travertine, aged brass, leather, bouclé and richly patterned rugs, and it holds its own in a maximalist mix.
Set it in a living room corner, beside a bedroom window or in a reading nook where a bulkier armchair would crowd the floor. The bolster back and sprung seat suit long afternoons with a book, and the open frame lets it float in the middle of a room without a blank back. Vacuum or brush the upholstery lightly to keep it looking its best.
