Floyd Dining Table

The Floyd Dining Table from Four Hands is a long double pedestal table built around one repeated shape, the rounded capsule. Two capsule-shaped legs in smoked black oak stand beneath the top, flanked by pillow-cut sides, and a softly arched frame wraps all four edges of the tabletop. Oak veneer over solid oak is joined with mortise and tenon and bore and dowel construction, and leg levelers under the base keep it steady on an uneven floor. It comes in two lengths, both with the same deep, dark smoked finish.

The Floyd suite draws on Brazilian modern design, where soft edges and heavy, sculptural wood forms sit comfortably together. Here that shows up as a table with no hard corners in its logic, every curve answering another. The dark finish sits well against plaster or limewashed walls, cane and leather dining chairs, and a few brass or ceramic pieces down the center.

Use it as the anchor of a dining room that hosts often. The open space between the pedestals leaves room for chairs to tuck in and for guests to sit at the ends without knocking into a leg. Between dinners it works as a long work table or a spot to lay out a project, and the dark oak hides the wear of daily use.
