Joi End Table

Joi End Table

The Joi End Table from Four Hands is a round side table cut from light petrified wood, a material that began as a living tree and was mineralized over a very long time. The top is thick and the form is compact, with the cracks, graining and shifts in tone that come with the material left in plain view. Felt pads protect the floor underneath, and the table carries real weight, so it stays put once you have chosen its spot.

Because every piece is cut from a different section of wood, no two Joi tables match. Some read pale and creamy, others lean toward sand and tan, and the surface texture varies from one table to the next. The look sits between sculpture and furniture, a natural fit beside plaster lamps, linen upholstery, or a room that already has a good deal of pattern going on.

Use it next to a sofa or lounge chair as a spot for a drink, a stack of books, or a small lamp. It also works at the foot of a bed, in an entry, or alone in a corner as an object in its own right. The surface can hold a good load, so a lamp and a few books are no trouble.
