The Kalaya Coffee Table from Four Hands is a low, round table with a swelling, bulbous base of brown-finished solid ash under a solid marble top in warm grey. The base is reeded, so the wood has a ribbed, sculpted surface that catches light differently as you move around it. It sits on a slim, recessed footing that keeps the rounded form from feeling heavy, though the marble top gives the table considerable weight and presence.
The design leans on mid-century Brazilian modernism, where generous curves meet restrained, narrow lines. It was developed with Four Hands collaborator Thomas Bina and Brazilian designer Ronald Sasson. The deep brown of the ash and the soft grey of the stone make a quiet pairing, and the table sits easily beside boucle, leather, linen, or a worn wool rug.
Set it at the center of a seating area, where a wide round surface leaves room for a stack of books, a tray of cups, and a bowl of fruit at once. With no corners to catch a hip or a shin, it suits a living room with a lot of foot traffic, and its low profile works with deep sofas and lounge chairs. Because the top is solid marble, choose its spot with care, since moving it later takes two people.
