The Lloyd Bookcase from Four Hands is a tall, wide oak case built around open shelving, with a single drawer set low in the base. Thick oak veneer covers the broad faces and solid oak carries the structure, which is joined with mortise and tenon and bore and dowel construction. The drawer has French dovetail joinery and undermount metal glides, closes softly, and opens with a press of the hand instead of a pull.
The look comes from Brutalist architecture: flat planes, square corners, and no hardware to interrupt the lines. It comes in two finishes. Aged natural oak keeps the grain visible and the tone warm, while smoked black turns the same form into a darker, more graphic piece. Either one sits easily next to plaster walls, wool rugs, and rounded ceramics that soften all that squareness.
Use the open sections for rows of books, framed photographs, vases, and the odd sculptural find, and keep the drawer for whatever you would rather not display, like remotes, cords, or loose papers. The case can be floated away from a wall to divide a room, and leg levelers help it sit true on uneven floors. An anti-tip kit comes with it, so anchor it to the wall once it is in place.
