The Lucius End Table from Four Hands is a square block of cast black concrete, with a smooth tabletop and sides left rough in the manner of split slate. The two surfaces do the work here: one flat and calm, the other heavy with relief. It sits on a slightly recessed base, so it reads as a single mass rather than a table with legs. Cast concrete varies from piece to piece, so tone and surface texture will differ a little from one table to the next.
The look borrows from quarried stone and brutalist architecture, translated to living-room scale. Black concrete sits easily beside warm woods, worn leather, boucle, and plaster walls, and it gives a pale sofa a dark anchor. The textured sides catch light at an angle and turn almost charcoal, while the top stays matte and even.
Put it beside a sofa or armchair to hold a lamp, a stack of books, and a glass. It also works as a bedside table or a landing spot in an entry. The weight keeps it steady, so it stays where you set it and takes a heavy ceramic lamp without complaint.
