The Matthes console from Four Hands is a long, low table built around a thick slab top that appears to float over a slightly angled base. It comes in solid reclaimed pine or in thick oak veneer, with finishes running from light weathered tones and natural wood to smoked black and grey. Reclaimed pine carries its history in knots, grain and color shifts, so no two tables read quite alike. Made in Vietnam.
The silhouette is simple and streamlined, with a cantilevered top and open space beneath that keeps a long piece from feeling heavy. It sits in the rustic modern camp, where raw grain meets clean geometry. The lighter finishes pair well with woven baskets, stoneware and plaster-toned walls, while the black and grey versions suit brass lamps, framed prints and darker rooms.
Set it behind a sofa, along a hallway or under a wall-mounted television as a slim media console. The shallow top holds a pair of lamps, a stack of books and a bowl for keys without crowding a walkway. In an entry or dining room it also works as a sideboard for serving pieces and extra glassware.
