The Ona Coffee Table from Four Hands is a round, low-slung table built from solid mindi and mindi veneer, set on a plinth-style base that sits just above the floor. A reeded pattern is carved continuously around the whole body, so it reads as one sculpted drum instead of a top resting on legs. The frame is joined with mortise and tenon construction, and the wide, substantial scale gives it real presence in a seating group.
Reeding has a long run in furniture, from Art Deco casework to midcentury sideboards, and here it is worked in a softer, more relaxed way. The vertical grooves catch light and throw small shadows across the surface, which gives the table texture without any added ornament. It is offered in a warm amber finish and a deep smoked black finish, and the mindi grain shows through either one. Pair the amber with linen, leather, and woven rugs, or the black with bouclé, stone, and brass.
Set it at the center of a living room where a sofa and a pair of chairs face one another, and the round form leaves room to walk around it. The top holds a stack of books, a low bowl, or a tray of glasses, and the closed base keeps the look clean from every side. Because it is real wood, grain and tone vary from table to table.
