The Paden Dining Table from Four Hands is an oval tabletop set on two crescent-shaped legs, a pairing of curve against curve that reads as sculpture before it reads as furniture. The top is faced in a thick wood veneer over a solid wood structure, with legs in the same solid wood. Finishes run from pale sand to aged black, and grain and tone shift from one table to the next.
The silhouette comes from the organic modern tradition, where rounded forms and visible grain soften a room full of straight lines. The legs sit in from the ends of the top, so chairs can pull in from every side without a post in the way. Sandy acacia and worn oak sit comfortably with linen, plaster walls, and woven pendants, while the aged black acacia suits a darker, moodier dining room.
An oval has no head of the table, which suits long dinners where conversation drifts. It is a large table in any of its lengths, so give it room to be walked around. Set it with a linen runner and a low bowl, or leave the wood bare and let the top carry the room.
