An oval extension dining table from Four Hands, built on two thick, crescent-shaped pedestal bases that carry a sweeping top of solid wood and thick veneer. Depending on the finish, the wood is acacia or oak, with edge-banded veneer over finger-jointed construction. A leaf stored as an insert slides out on metal ball bearing hardware to lengthen the oval, and leg levelers keep the heavy bases steady on uneven floors. Grain, knots, and small surface checks vary from table to table, which is part of working with solid wood.
The silhouette is soft and weighty at once, with a rounded top that has no corners and pedestals that read as sculpture more than support. The finishes run from honey and medium brown to pale sand, blackened acacia, and a raw-looking oak, so the table can sit quietly in an organic-modern room or hold its own against a more layered, maximalist one. It pairs well with upholstered or woven chairs, linen runners, and ceramics with some heft of their own.
Because there are no corner legs, chairs pull in from every side and guests can shift along the curve without a knee finding a post. Leave the leaf out for weeknight dinners and homework, then open the table for holiday meals, long Sunday lunches, or a crowd that arrived with a few extra friends. Wipe spills right away and use trivets and placemats to keep the finish looking its best.
