The Palto Coffee Table from Four Hands is a square, low-slung table with heavy proportions and a top that looks like weathered bark. The surface is made from dark bark paper, a paper fiber finished to show the ridges and tonal shifts of real bark, and it sits on a thick edge-banded slab. Below it, a sled-style base in smoked alder, both solid and resawn veneer, runs the length of the table and holds it close to the floor.
The look is contemporary with an earthy streak. Paper and smoked wood in near-black and deep brown give the table a matte, tactile surface that sits well beside boucle, aged leather, wool rugs, and plaster or limewash walls. It suits rooms that already have plenty of pattern and color, because the table adds weight and texture without competing.
Set it at the center of a seating area where a large surface is useful. Stack art books, set down a tray of drinks, or leave a single sculptural object in the middle and let the bark texture do the work. Leg levelers on the base help it sit steady on uneven floors. As with any natural-looking finish, the pattern in the top will vary from table to table.
