The Rothler is a side chair from Four Hands built on contrast: a solid ash frame, a back woven from twisted paper cord, and a deep cushioned seat. The seat rides on webbing over a foam pad wrapped in batting, and the frame is joined with mortise and tenon and corner blocks. Upholstery comes in two textile blends in natural tones, both performance-woven to handle spills and wear, or in top-grain leather.
The back is the design's signature, with alternating weave patterns that read as texture from across the room and as pattern up close. Paper cord and ash give it a Scandinavian-meets-coastal lean, while the upholstered seat keeps it from feeling austere. Frame finishes run from light natural ash to a black brushed ash, so you can choose between a soft, pale look and a graphic one.
It is armless, so it slides under a table and works in sets of four, six, or a mismatched pair at each end. Use it around a dining table, at a kitchen island, or pulled up to a desk where a straight back and a comfortable seat matter. The fabric versions suit a house with regular meals and guests, and the leather version will soften and darken with use.
