A coffee table set from Four Hands that reads as one low, sculptural form when nested and as separate surfaces when pulled apart. Round tops of amber cast glass rest on black antiqued aluminum bases, each carried by three pillar legs. Cast glass varies from top to top, so depth of color and surface character differ slightly from one set to the next.
The look leans postmodern with a Brutalist streak. The thick, honey-colored glass recalls the smoked and amber glass tables of the 1970s, while the dark, aged finish on the legs keeps the whole set grounded and a little severe. It pairs well with bouclé and leather seating, walnut and oak case pieces, and rugs with some pattern to them.
Nest the tables in front of a sofa as a single coffee table, then separate them when the room needs more surface. One can sit beside an armchair for a drink and a book while the other stays put as the center of the seating area. The set suits a living room or a larger entry where the furniture gets rearranged now and then.
