The Ruskin Bench from Four Hands is a long, armless bench built from solid reclaimed pine, with a flat wooden platform seat and straight legs set in from the ends. Reclaimed boards carry their own history in knots, grain shifts and tone changes, so no two benches read exactly alike. A natural finish keeps the pine looking like wood, and leg levelers under each foot help it sit steady on uneven floors.
The silhouette follows the Parsons tradition, with square legs and a plain, unbroken top that leaves the grain to do the talking. It reads as farmhouse without leaning on rustic cliches, and it holds its own beside anything from a painted trestle table to a mid-century sideboard. The warm, weathered tone also sits well against dark leather, woven textiles and plaster-white walls.
Pull it along one side of a dining table in place of a row of chairs, or set it at the foot of a bed for shoes and folded blankets. In an entry, it gives a long run of seating for lacing boots, with room underneath for baskets. The seat is rated to hold a substantial load, so it works as everyday seating as well as a display surface for books and stacked linens.
