The Rutherford End Table from Four Hands is a round side table built from solid mixed reclaimed wood, with a broad top and a reeded pedestal base that sits just off the floor. Because the wood is reclaimed, grain, color and surface marks change from table to table, and small scratches and pitting are part of the material. The top overhangs the base generously, which gives the table a light, slightly floating look.
The form borrows from the carved and turned furniture of the palaces in Jaipur, then settles it into a quiet, modern silhouette. Vertical reeding gives the base rhythm and shadow, and the patchwork of different woods keeps the surface varied without any added ornament. It comes in two finishes, a softer ashen brown and a deeper dark reclaimed tone, and it sits easily next to leather, bouclé, rattan and plaster-textured walls.
Set it beside a sofa, between a pair of swivel chairs, or at the end of a bed. The round edges leave room to move around it, and the top is deep enough for a lamp, a stack of books and a drink. Use coasters and wipe spills quickly, and the wood will keep developing character as it is lived with.
