A long, low, armless bench from Four Hands, built on a poplar plywood frame and covered in a textured performance fabric. The seat is a loose, boxed cushion of polyurethane foam wrapped in polyester batting, resting on a wooden platform. Beneath it the frame is layered, with subtly rounded corners and an inset rim along each side, and it sits on square legs fitted with levelers.
The shape borrows from mid-century benches, where a plain rectangle and a little shadow-line carry all the interest. Fabric choices run from a warm flax-and-cotton blend to a velvety ochre and an off-white weave, so the bench can sit quietly against a pale wall or act as the one saturated note in a room. It pairs with lacquered consoles, rattan, brass lamps and a stack of art books on the seat.
Put it at the foot of a bed, under a window, along a hallway wall or beside a dining table in place of a row of chairs. The fabric is made to handle spills, stains and daily wear, so it holds up to shoes-off-at-the-door entries and kids using it as a runway. Choose the longer or shorter length depending on how much wall you have to fill.
