A long, armless bench from Four Hands, upholstered in a chunky boucle with the kind of looped texture you notice with your hand before your eye. The seat rests on a solid parawood base finished with a subtly distressed surface, so the wood reads as softly worn rather than freshly milled. Underneath, the frame is joined with mortise and tenon, finger joints and corner blocks, and leg levelers keep it steady on uneven floors. A foam and fiber-batting fill gives the seat a little give without going slouchy.
The Sinclair pairs nubby, tactile fabric with a plain rectangular silhouette, a combination that borrows from midcentury lounge seating and today's softer, more organic rooms. It comes in two upholstery colors, a natural off-white and a warm fawn, both set against the same pale, weathered wood. The low, uncluttered profile sits comfortably beside plaster walls, woven rugs, dark lacquer and bright pattern alike.
Because it has no arms or back, it moves easily from one job to the next. Set it at the foot of a bed, under a window, in an entry for pulling on boots, or along the open side of a dining table when extra seats are needed. It is long enough for two people and rated for steady everyday use.
