A long, low console from Four Hands with a burnished black finish rubbed in by hand, so the grain reads through in darker and lighter passes rather than a flat coat. The top and frame combine resawn mixed wood veneer with solid acacia, joined with mortise and tenon and frame-and-panel construction. Two drawers on black metal side-mount glides sit above an open shelf, and brass-finished pulls give the dark surface a warm point of contrast.
The silhouette comes straight from mid-century furniture, with squared legs, a slim profile and a clear gap beneath the body. The high-low contrast in the finish keeps it from reading as a reproduction. Black wood and brass pair easily with plaster-toned walls, saturated paint, vintage rugs and pieces with a little age on them.
Set it behind a sofa, along a hallway or under a gallery wall, and use the drawers for keys, matches, takeout menus and the odds and ends that collect near a door. The open shelf takes baskets, stacked books or a pair of lidded boxes. Adjustable leg levelers help it sit steady on older floors.
