The Tobin Chair from Four Hands is a low, deep lounge chair wrapped in Mongolian sheepskin. A cantilever-like wooden frame holds it just off the floor, and a webbed suspension seat sits beneath loose seat and back cushions filled with a blend of feathers, foam and fiber. The cushion casings come off, and the sheepskin is a natural material, so pile density and tone shift a little from one chair to the next.
The silhouette is sculptural and slightly retro, closer to a 1970s conversation-pit chair than a traditional armchair. The shaggy surface reads soft against the clean line of the wood frame, which makes it a good partner for leather, boucle, travertine or aged brass. It holds its own as the one loud piece in a quiet room, and it sits comfortably among other bold objects too.
Give it a corner of the living room by a window, or pull it up to a bookcase for long afternoons with a novel. The sling seat gives a little under you, so it suits lingering more than perching. Vacuum or brush the fur lightly to keep it fresh.
