The Trey Modular Wide Bookcase from Four Hands is a tall, floor-standing storage piece in solid poplar and raw iron, with open shelving above and a pair of hinged doors below. The frame is joined with English dovetails, tongue and groove, and pocket screws, and leveling feet keep it steady on uneven floors. Top-grain leather pulls are secured with metal hardware and give the doors a soft, worn-in handle.
The lines come from midcentury furniture, kept clean and a little severe, then warmed by the poplar and roughened by the iron. Wood grain and tone differ from one piece to the next, so each bookcase reads slightly different. The finishes run from warm auburn to a black wash to a pale dove, each paired with a leather pull that sets off the wood.
Use the open shelves for books, ceramics, and framed work you want in view, and the lower cabinet for media, linens, or whatever you would rather keep out of sight. A cord management opening makes room for a router or speaker without trailing wires. It stands well on its own against a living room or study wall, and it is designed to double up beside a second bookcase or the matching media console.
