The Uma Dining Table from Four Hands is an oval pedestal table with a top that tapers toward its ends and a base pinched in at the waist. The top is thick oak veneer with edge-banded sides, set on a base of solid oak and composite resin. Everything carries the same smoked black finish, and because the top is veneer, grain and tone will vary a little from table to table.
The cinched base is the whole idea here. It reads as a single carved form rather than a table with legs, closer to a sculpture plinth than to a standard dining set. The dark, matte surface suits modern rooms and also holds its own next to older pieces, and it gives pale upholstered chairs, brass lighting, or a patterned rug something to push against.
With no corner legs, chairs can pull in at any point around the oval, and the pedestal leaves knee room along the whole edge. It anchors a dining room as the main event, and it would also work as a worktable in a large kitchen or a studio. It is a heavy, substantial piece, so plan its spot before it arrives.
