Shagreen Round Nightstand

A round bedside table from Four Hands, wrapped in grey faux shagreen over an iron frame. The finish is a molded resin that copies the pebbled, bead-like surface of stingray skin, so the top and body read as one smooth, tactile drum. A single dovetailed drawer slides on undermount metal glides, with an open compartment below it and a base that lifts the whole piece off the floor.

Shagreen was a favorite surface of Art Deco and mid-century cabinetmakers, and this nightstand borrows that lineage with a softer, curved silhouette. The cool grey skin pairs with antique brass accents, which warm it up against linen, walnut, or a painted wall. It sits comfortably beside a tailored upholstered bed or a more relaxed, layered one.

Use the drawer for a phone charger, reading glasses, and the balm you reach for before sleep, and keep a stack of books or a basket in the open compartment. The top is wide enough for a lamp, a water glass, and a small dish. A rail inside the drawer keeps it from pulling out too far, and leg levelers let it settle evenly on an uneven floor.
