Vessa Dining Chair

The Vessa is an armless dining chair from Four Hands, built on a solid oak frame in a drifted finish that keeps the grain visible and a little weathered. The barrel-shaped seat cushion is covered in a deep cigar-brown faux leather and rests on webbing. At the back, the rear legs curve up and join a rounded cushion that is fixed in place, so the whole chair reads as one continuous, soft-edged form.

The shapes here are all curves: a seat that bows outward, a back that wraps rather than stands, and legs that taper down from the oak frame. It sits in the lineage of midcentury and Scandinavian side chairs, with a relaxed, slightly sculptural attitude. Brown upholstery against pale oak is a warm pairing that works with a travertine or white oak table, a plaster wall, or a table already crowded with ceramics and candlesticks.

The back cushion doubles as a handle, so you can pull the chair out from the table with one hand. Because it has no arms, it tucks in neatly when the table is cleared and slides in easily at the end of a long dinner. The faux leather wipes down after spills, which suits a dining room that gets used every day. A pair also makes a good desk chair or a seat for an entry.
